Act of War

Act of war is a really great documentary. It reveal the truth of what Hawaiian history from ancient time to now, and how was Hawaiian been taken by America and what after what have Hawaiian people meet. However, it is not only a great documentary on its meaning but its editing skills, audio, and photography. Act of War produced in association with the Center for Hawaiian Studies, University of Hawaii was first aired in 1993.

Editing Technic, they used a lot of transitions inside of this movie like they used video of storm as a transition, when they are telling about Hawaiian people in dangers and meet prejudice. Also when they have images of a story. They will use old pictures and doing zoom in and zoom out effect as transition. For example, when they were telling about Hawaiian people trying to assassinate politicians to save their kingdom, there is a black and white photo with assassinators and picture doing zoom in and out switching between old buildings and politicians with shooting sounds.

For Audio, At the beginning of the documentary, there are some scenes about Hawaii. For example, there are scenes of sunset, beach with slowly and peaceful Hawaiian music which is Blue Hawaii. However, following that is a part of voice over that Hawaiian were doing protest, a woman gave a strong speech that how Hawaiian people suffering from America’s governing and they encounter prejudice and injustice.
